Wedge Mountain climb with Rich
We first planned to climb Mt Rainier but the weather forecast wasn't what we wanted (Thunderstorm). So we decided to climb Wedge Mountain instead which is located just north of Whistler. The weather forecast for Whistler was sun, sun, and sun. So we hoped the forecast is correct!
The climb to Wedge lake is fairly steep and not too scenery since most parts are in the trees. So the first picture is already at Wedge lake: Rich and Kerstin, happy to be up at the lake but not too happy about the clouds.
We decided to put the alarm clock on 3 am hoping the weather is nice. After hearing rain overnight I thought we won't go but when the alarm clock rang and Rich looked outside he said clear sky. So we got ready and left the camp ground. The moon is still there - this was around 4:30am. At the bottom of the glacier we roped up.
The sun is slowly coming out and the moon is slowly disappearing. Rich in the front and Kerstin in the middle.
View back to wedge lake. Can you see all the clouds in the valley? Rich is now in the back and Seppel in the front taking the picture.
We climbed along the ridge. You can see Wedge Peak in the back on the left side.
Some rockier sections, Rich and Kerstin.
That is where we have to go...
The view to the glacier next to us.
Having our aim in the view - Rich and Kerstin.
The last section got a bit steeper.
The view back to where we came from.
The last meters to the peak, we put a couple of pickets in.
On the top plateau. Happy to be at the top :-)
Rich taking pictures.
Having a rest before heading back down, Whistler Ski Resort in the back.
The view back down to Wedge Lake and Mt Weart which we climbed the next day.
Happy to be at the peak without clouds!
Rich on the way back down.
Fun time on the way down - you are so much faster.
We did some crevasse rescue training. Imagine Kerstin is in a crevasse and Rich wants to set the anchor and get her out of the crevasse.
Getting the rope organized and set up a pulley system.
Seppel trying the same. This time Rich was in the crevasse.
The last meters down on the glacier. You can see wedge peak in the back.
Back at the campground. Happy to be back but not too happy about tons of mosquitoes!
A marmot right next to the hut.
Wedge Mountain and the hut in the evening.
Rich - the model.
The next day we hiked Weart Mountain.

View across to Wedge Mountain. That's where we were yesterday!
Due to the tons of mosquitoes we decided to hike out that night. Leaving the lake and hiking back into the valley.
We arrived in Whistler at 9pm and since it was saturday night we had a hard time finding food.
Rich, thanks a lot for joining us. We had a great time!
Here are some more pictures of Rich. Rich is quite a good photographer so check it out (way better than our pictures :-) ): www.flickr.com/photos/richso
