Rheinwaldhorn day 1
Peter, a good friend of mine from back in the day in Darmstadt, went on a mission in the south of Switzerland, the aim was the Rheinwaldhorn which is located in a pretty remote area close to San Bernardino Pass. We wanted to do a loop which included public transport, military transport and hitch hiking.
At the north gate of the San Bernardino tunnel we got of the bus, not much skiing here. Peter looking forward to go skiing.
Luckily we got a ride of the army since this valley is military area, half an hour before the army was practicing with 120 mm cannons! Peter called them a day before and figured it out when we can go through.
Tricky route finding at the beginning.
The weather was crap.
The hut, pretty wicked location.
But first we had to go up some steep slopes.
The hut is not serviced in the winter time but there is beer and other drinks provided!
It cleared up a bit. Looks like some nice ski runs.
Wicked hut location.
After a lunch break in the hut we left most of our gear there and checked out the area.
The skiing wasn't great.
The chef, Peter. We were the only ones staying at the hut. In summer it sleeps only 20 people or so. Small huts are a lot nicer than those hotels in the mountains with 150 beds.
Full Moon
I haven't stayed at a hut of the Swiss Alpine Club before but I must say it was a great hut, even blankets with down feathers. You sleep like a baby in those things (well, I didn't sleep like a baby because Peter was snoring).
